REQUALIFICATION OF PROJECT OF ZONA RIBEIRINHA DE LAGOS

Background: Started - May 2001; Concluded - 2003

This project is integrated in the project Estações com Vida promoted by Invesfer.

Taking into consideration the construction of the new railway station of Lagos, the project covers an area situated between the railway station and the marina of Lagos, also involving the fishing port and the Meia Praia. This Requalification Project was developed around the protocol agreed between Invesfer, the Municipal Council of Lagos, the Port and Maritime Transport Institute and the Algarve Co-Ordination and Regional Development Committee.

The proposal includes the following aspects:

• New railway station;
• Interfaces Projects / Centre of Ciência Viva;
• Housing and services;
• Hotel service;
• Daytime or night-time Restaurant/commercial and leisure facilities;
• Redevelopment of the fishing port;
• Treatment of public spaces and creation of thematic pedestrian footpaths;
• Spatial planning and rehabilitation of the environment on he beach.
