ENVIRONMENT REQUALIFICATION PROJECT AND SPATIAL PLANNING OF INVOLVING AREAS OF BARRINHA DE MIRA

Background: Started in January 2002; finished in 2004.

This project aimed to identify and resolve the problems that occur in the water plan of Barrinha de Mira, which is integrated in the biophysical context of Ria de Aveiro.

Out of all the factores that contribute for the degradation of the environment of Bairrinha the most stricking one is the diffuse pollution in the surroundings of the lakes and water lines, due to the agricultural and fishing activities, to ETAR and the lack of basic sanitation in the growing populations.

Highlighted features of this project:

- Requalification of the water;
- Safeguarding and recovery of bird species;
- Environmental management program.
