Background:
Started in 1994. Published in Diário da República on 27 of June 2005.

The area of study is from Vilamoura until the mouth of the River Guadiana, in an extension that stretches a total of 75 kilometers, where you can find a great diversity in the landscape and the environment. Throughout this section, there are two protected areas: the Natural Park of Ria Formosa and the Natural Reserve of Castro Marim.

This plan is intended to provide the basis for a global and sustainable development, in accordance with the ecolological and economical criteria that is internationally recognised.
