URBAN PLAN OF VAGOS

Background:
Started in 1995. Published in Diário da República on 2 of March 2001.

The area subejct to the Plan encompasses Vila de Vagos and the surrounding areas in its proximity. The area of intervention of the Urban Plan (PU) encompasses urban, semi-urban and rural areas, which make it hard to define the following terms::
- Urban Spaces and
- Non-Urban Spaces
both included in the urban perimeter.
At the begining of the Plan, the population of Vila de Vagos was around 3 000 inhabitants.

The Urban Plan of Vagos has as its objectives:
- Stimulate the emergence of a local industrial base taking advantage of the actual and foreseen improved accesibility;
- Take advantage of the turistic and recreational potentiality:
- Intra-regional sea-side tourism associated to the proximity of the beaches;
- Relaxation and nature-friendly tourism;
- Activities and sports related to the river and activities of trekking;
- Restructure the existing urban area and plan for its coherent growth.
