Background:
Started in 1996. Published in Diário da República on 13 of February 2003.

Vila de São Brás de Alportel is situated in the eastern part of Algarve, about 25 kilometres North of the urban centre Faro-Olhão.
The area subject to the Plan encompasses the Vila de São Brás de Alportel, intending from that moment an adjustment of the urban perimetre defined in the Municipal Master Plan. The area of intervention of the Urban Plan (PU) therefore covers areas currently classified as urban, semi-urban and rural.
The population of Vila de São Brás de Alportel was, at the time of the begining of the Plan, around 2 700 inhabitants.
