Background:
Published in Diário de República on 17 of March 2008.

The area of intervention has around 322 hectares and covers the urban area of Vila de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and the adjacent areas, with a population of around 2.500 inhabitants.

Based on the natural caracteristics and the location of the area of intervention, the chosen urban development principles established in this Plan suggested the following objectives:

- Rethink the urban space, aiming to maintain, fill the gaps, requalify and expand the built park as well as structuring and redefining the road-infrastructures;
- Stimulate outdoor tourism taking advantage of the excellent accessibility to the Archaeological Park of Vale do Côa, classified as a world heritage in 1998.
