URBAN PLAN OF CIDADE DE LEIRIA


Client:
Municipal Council of Leiria.
Background:
Started in February 2000. Currently ongoing.

The area of intervention has 3 843 hectares and covers the urban perimetre of the city of Leiria, the capital of the district of the same name, with a population of around 45.000 inhabitants.

The Plan expects to achieve the following objectives:

-Redefine the urban space, in the sense of fulfilling the necessities and requalifying the area of intervention, specifically through the relocation of the diverse industrial units disseminated;
- Define new distribution routes that structure the urban space and that offer alternatives to the existing infrastructures;
- Define the urban ecological structure;
- Foster the development of tourism in the area of itnervention;
- Favour the city through a set of equipments and other adequate spaces in relation to the capital of the district, so as to contribute to the better quality of life for the population resident in the municipal e and neighbouring municipals;
- Propose projects or other interventions that promote investment for the economic development with technological potential;
- Increase and promote the stimulation of the industrial sector, looking to diversify the means of activity and foster the specialisation of labour.
